First International Conference of Journalists Without Borders Held in Essen, Germany

The first international conference organized by Journalists Without Borders (RSF) was held in the city of Essen, Germany, with the participation of a large number of intellectuals, journalists, and university professors from across the globe. The central theme of the conference focused on finding effective ways to protect journalists worldwide and promote press freedom.

Throughout the conference, panel discussions and keynote speeches addressed the growing threats facing journalists, especially in regions experiencing conflict, political repression, or censorship. Participants exchanged ideas on legal protection mechanisms, digital security tools, and the role of international organizations in safeguarding media professionals.

The Secretary-General of JWB opened the event with a strong message about the importance of collective action: “Journalists around the world are increasingly under attack for doing their job. This conference is a call to the international community to stand up for those who risk everything to report the truth.”

The attendees emphasized the urgent need for global cooperation, stronger legal safeguards, and practical support systems for journalists at risk. The conference concluded with a declaration advocating for the protection of press freedom as a fundamental human right and calling on governments to take immediate and concrete action.

The event in Essen marks a significant step forward in the international effort to protect journalists and uphold the principles of free and independent media.
