The organization “Journalists Without Borders”, in collaboration with Human Restart, organized an event to mark the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists. The opening emphasized the importance of commemorating this day and showing solidarity with journalists who risk their lives to deliver the truth and uphold freedom of expression.

Dr. Farhad Ali, President of Journalists Without Borders, highlighted the necessity of protecting journalists while performing their work, enacting appropriate laws to safeguard them, and punishing those who violate their rights.
Dr. Habib Ibrahim, journalist and academic, shared his personal experience, pointing to the attacks he and his colleagues faced from militias and armed groups in Iraq, which resulted in the loss of several journalists’ lives and the destruction of journalistic equipment. He stressed the need to monitor journalists’ conditions and provide them with protection and psychological support to recover from such traumatic experiences.

Mr. Hadi Doubani, journalist and media professional, presented a detailed briefing on the occasion, explaining the reasons for the day’s designation and the violations committed against journalists worldwide, whose perpetrators have often escaped justice.

At the conclusion of the event, participants emphasized the importance of urging global organizations and governments to enact laws to end impunity for crimes against journalists and provide the necessary support and protection to create an environment that allows journalists to perform their work safely and freely.
