Lecture Examines the Major Transformations in the History of the Middle East

Journalists without Borders organized a lecture entitled “The Major Transformations in the History of the Middle East”, presented by journalist Mohammed Jawad AlKhafaji, as part of the organization’s lecture series aimed at strengthening knowledge of the political and cultural history of the Middle East and promoting a deeper understanding of the transformations that have shaped the region.

The lecture examined some of the most significant transformations that the Middle East experienced throughout successive historical periods. Particular attention was given to the period beginning with the emergence of the Islamic state and the political and cultural changes that accompanied it, followed by the rise of the Umayyad and Abbasid states and the scientific, cultural and economic development witnessed during the Islamic civilization, and later the emergence and expansion of the Ottoman Empire and its influence across the region.

The lecturer also addressed the political and social transformations that took place during these periods, as well as the gradual changes in the balance of power between empires, regional powers and European states. The lecture then examined the beginnings of European intervention in the affairs of the region and its political and historical consequences, many of which continued to influence later developments.

Journalist Mohammed Jawad AlKhafaji emphasized that understanding the major transformations in the history of the Middle East requires viewing the region as a diverse historical space in which different civilizations, empires and political powers interacted. He also noted that the region’s historical developments cannot be understood separately from the broader changes taking place in Europe and the wider world.

The lecture featured an interactive discussion, with participants raising questions and exchanging views on various historical developments, the causes of the political and cultural transformations that shaped the Middle East, and their impact on the region’s subsequent history.

The lecture is part of the cultural and educational program organized by Journalists without Borders, which aims to provide a historical and informed perspective on issues related to the Middle East and encourage participants to better understand the present through the study of the historical transformations that helped shape it.
