Journalists without Borders organized a workshop entitled “Democracy and the Rule of Law in Europe”, presented by Mr. Ali Laali, as part of the organization’s program aimed at strengthening knowledge of democratic principles and the political and legal systems in Europe.
The workshop addressed the concept of democracy and its importance in building modern societies, with particular emphasis on the principle of the rule of law as one of the fundamental pillars of a democratic system. The discussion highlighted its role in protecting rights and freedoms and ensuring equality before the law.
Mr. Ali Laali also addressed the relationship between democratic institutions and the rule of law, explaining the importance of independent institutions, the distribution of powers and mutual checks and balances. He also highlighted the role of the judiciary and legislation in protecting citizens’ rights and strengthening public trust in state institutions.
The workshop featured an interactive discussion, with participants raising questions about how democratic systems function in Europe, the mechanisms for implementing the rule of law, and the role of citizens in protecting democracy and participating in political and social life.
The discussions emphasized the importance of awareness of democratic and legal principles, not only as political concepts, but also as practical foundations for organizing public life, protecting individual rights and strengthening coexistence within European societies.
The workshop is part of a series of workshops and activities organized by Journalists without Borders to provide accessible and clear knowledge of political and legal issues and to encourage dialogue and discussion on democratic values and the rule of law in Europe.
